When I first invented veganism back in 1989 I had no idea it would take off such as it did. Luckily, the news media is starting to catch on and have published their first ever article about veganism where they happen to interview me. Also, there’s a cupcake recipe. What will I come up with next?
Picture I took of myself for MySpace but if it’s good enough for MySpace it’s good enough for the Washington Post.
I guess I will have to wake up before noon on a Saturday because I’m a panelist at the Small Press Book Fair. Can you make it? I never thought I’d be a cupcake panelist. It should be fun and, as far as panels go, I would imagine it to be fairly civilized.
HERE’S LOOKIN’ AT YOU, CUPCAKE
What is it About Cupcakes? Weve loved them since childhood, and now it seems they’re everywhere. Cupcakes: Why do we love them so? There are lines forming outside of bake shops and thousands of cookbooks devoted to these sweet little treats; people even blog about them. Join this panel of cupcake experts as we sing the praises of the cupcake and discuss just why they have remained so popular for so long (did you know that Hostess first started making them in 1919?). Along the way you’ll learn where to find the best cupcakes in the city and pick up a baking tip or two.
This actually has nothing to do with Thanksgiving but since I couldn’t find any actual Thanksgiving cupcake news to write about I thought I could blindside you with cuteness. And it worked! This is Anouk via alana jonze.
A genuine fauxstess hat from bittersweet blog. Get your vegan yarns and start knitting, it’s getting chilly out there. Make me one while you’re at it, come on! You know I’d do it for you.
Thanks to Michaela for pointing this out!
“Don’t spit on my cupcake and tell me it’s frosting.”
I think there is some sort of blogger rulebook (it’s just in hard copy, not on the internet) that says when you start quoting Judge Judy maybe you are running out of things to say. But she’s from Brooklyn, I’m from Brooklyn – that must be a point of interest.
Thanks to everyone that came out Saturday night! I apologize for calling you stupid for not knowing the answers to my trivia questions. I get testy when people don’t know the full subtleties of Estelle Getty’s body of work and the moons of Mars.
It was so awesome to see everyone and I didn’t get time to talk to everyone I wanted to, which I guess is an indication of a good night.
Here are some photos, my camera battery ended up dying so the part where we wrestled in a vat of frosting didn’t make it to film. Another indicator of a good night.
Poor sick Terry with palette knife action.

Here we have Evelyn and Jimb of VeganFriendly.com enjoying cupcakes in the top secret cupcake headquarters at Freddy’s Saturday night. Don’t think that this is the last you’ll hear about Saturday night, I’m just taking it easy like Sunday evening right now. Why don’t you go on over to VeganFriendly and figure out what you’re going to eat when you’re in NYC.
If you are an idiot like me (and you are) maybe this will make you laugh reluctantly and then hate yourself for it.
Etsy is like Ebay only more tastefully designed and peddling only handmade things. Look at this adorable cupcake apron made from recycled fabrics. I used to not wear an apron when I was baking but then my pants ended up looking like a bra at the Michigan Womyn’s Music Fest. I’ve never actually been to that, I can only imagine. See, because womyn roll around in the mud there in nothing but bras.
Thank you Vivacious Vegan for pointing this out!
Or, real men do bake cupcakes!
