This is our fifth year and all funds raised are directed to the Ontario Rett Syndrome Association (ORSA) (www.rett.ca). In 2008, over 425 people participated in the event and more than $50,000 was raised. It is through the generous support of our participants and sponsors that we were able to direct vital funds towards research to continue to work to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is caused by a random genetic mutation and it is considered to be a severe neurological disorder and it affects 1:10,000 female births. It is often misdiagnosed as autism, cerebral palsy, or a non-specific developmental delay. Many girls experience seizures, scoliosis and the inability to communicate verbally. Girls and women with Rett Syndrome are dependent on their families and/or caregivers for life. For 2009, we are asking for your support through the donation of 1 copy of your book, “Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World” to be used as a raffle prize or silent auction item. It is with in-kind support such as your donation that we can continue to generate vital fundraising dollars for research, clinic development and therapy treatments. In return for your donation, we will recognize your contribution on race day. We appreciate your support more than ever in these challenging times. I made 265 VEGAN cupcakes using your recipes (with my own little tweeks of course!). They were not only THE BEST cupcakes I've ever made, the recipes were the most consistent...time and time and time again! People who bought them didn't know they were vegan...until AFTER they raved about how they were the best ever...then I let them know! Now EVERYONE wants the recipes! Thank you thank you thank you!
